Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, higher education institutions shifted from emergency response to long-term adaptation and strategically planning for what’s next. Many institutions have already implemented hybrid/remote work and learning arrangements, supported by a variety of innovative technologies and tools. Institutions are now focused on designing and implementing needed policies and initiatives, creating new positions, committees, and workgroups, and expanding and upgrading their technology. This focus on adapting and planning can also be seen in some additional trends this year, such as Focus on increasing institutional resilience and Expansion of the digital transformation of higher education.

This report focuses on the workforce, cultural, and technological shifts for ten macro trends emerging in higher education in 2023. Across these three areas of shift, we report the major impacts and steps that institutions are taking in response to each trend. Some trends overlap with the 2022 Higher Education Trend Watch report. However, while some topics and issues remain consistent, significant shifts have occurred across many of the trends for 2023.

A time traveller visiting a library today would likely have a tough time wrapping her head around what she was seeing: the 21st century library has evolved far, far beyond its original state as a book repository to become a vital community hub and omnichannel content source.

As libraries enter the latest phase of their history, pivoting once more to adapt to the lingering impacts of Covid, we’re looking back at the history of public libraries to remember just how far we’ve come — and how many more exciting new opportunities for change are on the horizon.

“We are glad that peace in #Ethiopia is being given a chance,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization (WHO) tells a press conference in Geneva, insisting that aid must be allowed into #Tigray urgently.

“After the ceasefire agreement, I was expecting that food and medicines would just flow immediately. That’s not happening.”

ስንዴ በድህረምርት ባህርዪው በፍጥነት ከሚበላሹ ሰብሎች የሚመደብ እህል ነው። ስንዴ ለስላሳና ሽፋን ከሌላቸው ስብሎች አንዱ ሲሆን በቀላሉ እርጥበት በመሳብ ሻጋታ እንዲበቅል ምቹ ሁኔታን በመፍጠር ለአፍላቶክሲን መመረዝ የተጋለጠ እህል ነው። የእርጥበቱ መጠን ከበዛም ምርቱ ሳይሰበሰብ ሁሉ ገለባው ላይ መብቀል ስለሚጀምር የስንዴ ምርት አሰባብሰና አያያዝ ልዩ ጥንቃቄን ይፈልጋል። ከዘሩ/ፍሬው ልስላሴም የተነሳ በቀላሉ በነቀዝና በሌሎች የክምችት ወቅት ተባዮች (#storage_pests) የሚጠቃ ሰብል ስለሆነና በአጭር ጊዜ ሊበላሽ ስለሚችል የድህረምርት አያያዙ ጉዳይ በፍጥነት ትኩረት የሚያሻው መሆኑን መገንዘብና ቅድመዝግጅት ማድረግ #ወሳኝ እና በአሁኑ ወቅጥ እንደአገርም የቅድሚያ ቅድሚያ (#priority) የሚያስፈልገው ጉዳይ ይመስለኛል።
የዓለማችን ታላላቅ የስንዴ አቅራቢዎች የሚባሉት ቻይና፣ አሜሪካ፣ ዩክሬን፣ ራሺያ፣ ፈረንሳይ እና ካናዳ ያሉ አገራት በሚከተሉት ምክንያቶች ከኢትዮጵያ የተሻለ የስንዴ የድህረምርት አያያዝ ይኖራቸዋል፦
>>> በዓመት አንድ ጊዜ ተባዮችን የሚቀንስ ከባድ የቅዝቃዜ እና የበረዶ ወቅት አላቸው
>>> የስንዴ እሴት ሰንሰለታቸው በእጅጉ የዳበረ ስለሆነ የስንዴ ምርታቸውን እሴት ጨምረውበት እና የድህረምርት ቆይታውን በበቂ አራዝመው ስለሚያቆዩና ስለሚሸጡ
>>> የአመራረትና የምርት የአያያዝ ቴክኖሎጂ አቅማቸው በበቂ የዳበረ ስለሆነ
በኢትዮጵያ ግን ሰፊ ውስንነቶች ስላሉ በቂ ዝግጅት የሚያስፈልግ ይመስለኛልና የሚመለከተው ሁሉ በጊዜ ቢዘጋጅበት መልካም ይሆናል።

If wheat production in Ethiopia is really like it is presented in the media, that has great implications for self-sufficiency towards domestic supply and should be appreciated. If exporting wheat is also true, PLEASE, let us not export grains, but value-added wheat products like flour, Pasta, Macaroni, noodles, biscuits, cookies, couscous, and so on. Exporting raw grain is not a success!!!
