Invitiation to Lawyers, Academics, and Students to Get Involved In Twinning Program
The 21st Century Information Retrieval and Dissemination Network is very pleased to create a collaboration network with the College of Law & Governance, Hawassa University, and a UK organization called Lawyers Against Poverty and shares with you a piece of information about the Twinning Opportunity emailed on February 2, 2022, from UK organization called Lawyers Against Poverty.
Based upon the aforementioned I will introduce you to Pascale Bird a member of a UK organization called Lawyers Against Poverty which is a network of social justice advocates who want to use the law to transform society.
Pascale Bird is a Legal Officer & Advice Coordinator, Legal Response Initiative and she is leading a twinning program that is designed to match up UK lawyers and students with lawyers, academics, and students overseas. She is keen to explore whether there would be interest on the part of Hawassa University to take part in such a scheme?

Introduction
Lawyers Against Poverty has been running a twinning program for a few years, twinning lawyers with similar experiences or interests from different regions of the world, and have recently started involving universities in the program. We think universities provide a potentially great setting for developing twinning relationships: they will offer plenty of opportunities for collaboration and shared learning for academics and legal scholars who teach or work in similar fields and/or have similar interests. They also have the potential for establishing longer-term and more sustainable relationships, ie relationships that go beyond the one-year pairing of two individuals.
These opportunities may include any or all of the following:
- Work on a joint research project
- Share best practices on teaching
- Learn about law clinics and student societies
- Learn about career pathways
- Compare notes on working both as an academic and practitioner
- Learn about legal systems and working practices in another jurisdiction
- Develop innovative ways of working
University twinning also provides scope for coordination and collaboration with the junior branch of LAP that twins law students at universities and runs a number of projects…
